Wow, where does the time go???

I have been so busy since releasing the Spring/Summer line that my poor blog has been very neglected. I have been trying to keep the facebook page up to date, mainly because it's a little easier to do quickly.

Anyway, I'm here now!!

Thought I would pop up a couple of pics from the Spring/Summer photo shoot. I haven't had much of a chance to add to the range due to a bunch of custom orders.

.....even though it's still freeeeeeeezzzing here on the sunny Sunshine Coast, I am busily preparing my Spring/Summer line in preparation for a summer of market stalls!!!! Now that I have left my 'real' job, I am getting stuck into Boodabubs.

This years Spring/Summer will bring fresh fabrics and fun designs.

For the Girls.....The TINY TOP is back for it's third year but with a cute twist. Some simple girls bright, SUMMER SKIRTS which will come with APPLIQUED SINGLETS for a complete outfit. Of course, it wouldn't be Boodabubs without some new fabric PARTY PANTS and we will also have some new fabrics for the GIDGET dress which was popular last year.

For the Boys.....The KOMBI Summer Set will of course be available in some groovy new fabrics teamed with summery singlets. The GROMMET summer set will also be back in some new fabrics. There will be short sleeve T's and singlets available with funky Appliques for little groovers.

For Bubs there will be some little BUM BUMS BLOOMER singlet sets!
I am aiming to release new items mid August so stay tuned. Prototypes are made and ready for photographing so won't be long now :)

Boodabubs....vege patch

We are all very excited to see our first little broccoli growing in our garden. We used to grow them when we lived on the farm....pre-kids....but we've not planted them at this house until now. We are lucky, after much time and effort, to have 2 boys who actually enjoy eating broccoli and have it every night. Although we buy organic, I still prefer to be able to pick it from our own organic garden right before cooking for maximum freshness. Can't wait!!!

The chilli bush is growing out of control. Rohan cut it back last week and there's still about 2 million chillies on it!

And, much to the kids excitement, the Blueberry tree has fruit which will be ready soon. Yay for me, I won't have to pay $9.00 for a punnet :)

I have been thinking lately how much I would really like to get some chooks. We are only on a suburban block but we only have neighbours on one side and a huge bush reserve behind us. It would be nice to get a couple of laying hens to scratch around the yard. A pet that doesn't require too much maintenance nor much time from an already very busy family. Hmmmmm, will think about it a little longer......

Finally.....Boodabubs has set up a Made It store front.

Another avenue open for purchasing Boodabubs goodies. Pricing is the same and shipping costs the same however it should help more people discover the wonderful world of Boodabubs.

I decided, now that I am leaving my 'real job' that I am ready to push forward with Boodabubs and can finally give it the time I have so been wanting to. One and a half weeks until I finish up and can get stuck into Boodabubs.

We will also be selling our products throug a great new site Yellow Brick Road Market. We will be one of the early sellers on this market but it is sure to become the next big place for all things handmade. The lovely Prue is keeping control over items being sold to ensure minimal double up and maximum variety!

We should be up and running on Yellow Brick Road Market this week sometime.

All is on a 'go slow' here in Boodabubs land.

The cold weather has taken it's toll and I am suffering. The kids are fine, Rohan is fine...just me...the one who has to look after everybody else!! This has been going for weeks now but it has finally hit me for a six.

This week I have stopped boxing and running to completely rest and recover. Eating whole garlic cloves and drinking ginger tea by the gallon.

Everytime I enter my sewing room I am rather anxious and frustrated. Aside from finishing off some custom orders I just don't have the energy to start (or finish) anything.

Anyway, off to bed for me. Hopefully I will wake up feeling better....

Yummy Fabric

I received some more yummy fabric in the mail yesterday. Can't wait to whip up some funky little daks for winter. I really want to make some for my little groovers who always seem to miss out!

I really must build an extra room to house all of the fabric I own! I am currently planning a trip to Ikea for some space saving storage solutions to use in my sewing room.

At the moment, the room where I create is crammed with a computer desk, computer, filing cabinet, bookcase full of books, cuttin table and small storage table. I have also taken the built in robe doors off and my husband had built in a bench where my machines sit and my completed garments hang above on the built in robe hanger bar. Then I have my fabric sitting in about 6 large plastic tubs and stacked in the room. All this in a small/medium size bedroom of our house....congested much?!

Plenty of pigeon holes for tubs of fabric and a desk which should fit both machines and free up the robe for more storage. Well, that's the plan...either that or I just keep going how I am and eventually drown in the sea of fabric that is beginning to consume my little creative space!

A couple of months back I blogged about Kyan's first ever drawing of a 'person' and how exciting it was.
I was amazed at how quickly he went from not even wanting to try to draw....to....almost overnight, drawing a head with eyes and legs etc.
Well, a few weeks back (I'm a bit slack at my blogging!) I took a picture of this.....on my phone because my camera battery was flat and I needed to get it before he rubbed it out.

I COULD NOT BELIEVE MY EYES!!!! He called me over to see what he had done and this was it! His blackboard has letters printed down the sides of it and he has copied them to create his name. This is the very first time Kyan ever wrote his name. I have since had it written on my Mother's Day card....which was so nice. He even wrote his brothers name on the card...with a bit of help from Daddy. My clever little chicken :)

"Shopping" for a school

At the moment, our family is completely pre-occupied with choosing a school for Kyan. He starts Prep next year and it is currently enrolment time at all the private schools. I'm not sure why I'm particularly interested in private schools, I guess I'm just wanting to provide my children with a similar experience to my primary school days. I loved going to Mass and all the singing and activities that went with it. As a primary school aged girl, I thought it was great! I really want those first 3-4 years to be so fun that Kyan's idea of school will be etched into his brain as being fun. Not scary or boring or torturous in any way.

After 'checking out' all the local schools I find myself feeling a bit ho-hum about all of them. I can't help but think that most of the impact comes from the teacher which, in most cases, is almost impossible to know in advance. So my mission over the last 6 months (or more) has been to talk!!! I have been asking any parents I meet about schools that their children go to and what they think. I have even been asking kids....while at my day job....any kids I meet, I ask them about their school.

At this stage I am actually leaning toward a State School. A small school about 10 mins drive from my home. I know the prep teacher who is teaching prep there this year and next year. It's a MAN prep teacher which really appeals to me and he has a little boy very similar to Kyan (they are friends) so I know he knows how to handle Kyan's energy! There will also be about 5 of Kyan's friends from our Mothers Group attending the same school. I think it will be nice for him to start on this journey surrounded by some familiar faces.

Anyway, I shall continue on with my research in the hope of reaching a decision very soon so as not to miss out on the eventual school of choice!

Today I gave notice to my 'real job'. The job (with an ex-employer) I was offered a year ago has somehow morphed into something different and I wasn't liking where it was headed. It meant giving up another day with my boys and so I said NO! For the first time in a long time I listened to my gut and said NO!

My husband is so supportive and really doesn't understand why I went back to work in the first place. I love the people and the social side but when it cuts further into my family time, it has to end.

I haven't felt this great in a long time. I walked out knowing that it was the right thing to do and I feel like the possibilities are endless!!

Now, waiting for the 1st of June when I actually finish and can close the door behind me, this time I'll be leaving it closed & locked!

Not sure where the days and weeks are going but.....May already!!!???

Been a little busy over the past few weeks and a bit slack on the blogging.
A couple of weekends ago we managed to get up the range to Maleny and had a wander through the rainforest at Mary Cairncross park. It was a beautiful day.

On the way home we stopped in at a little Tea House which used to be Rohan's parents home....it was the home that he lived in for the first 3 years of his life. So nice to be able to wander around and have a look at the house which remains mostly unchanged!

I love this time of year!

Blown Away....

Every once in a while I receive a package that blows me away. It's presentation and quality are amazing and I feel proud to be stocking the items.

I am speaking about the delivery of baby shoes from Baby Things by Jessica. As soon as I opened the box I was speechless!

And it's not just the packaging. The shoes are exquisite and extremely well made. I wish my boys were still little enough to wear these!

It feels like Christmas!!! I have parcels arriving everyday lately. Loads of gorgeous goodies from both Australia and the U.S. to fill the Boodabubs Boutique!

Today I received a package from the fantastic Frank & Me.....a bunch of re-usable wipes, car seat/pram strap covers in fun fabrics for boys and girls and some special little burp cloths.

I also received my package from the groovy girls at charli&jax which means, lots of funky wipes cases will shortly be added to the store. Along with new hairclips, baby shoes and of course some funky Boodabubs fashion!

Our Sanctuary

Deciding to spend time at home this Easter has made me excited about getting some (very late) spring cleaning done! I feel like it is long overdue.

While looking around my home, I re-discovered some special little pockets of memories and happiness that I sometimes forget to stop and look at......

Our entry way has some lovely shelves holding special memories. One of our wedding photos and some shells collected from the beach while the photos were being taken.

This sunny little corner is where I am constantly rotating photos of our family. The artwork on the wall was given as a gift from my best friend some years ago. That's me in the middle with my best friend and her sister (my other best friend). We have been the closest of friends since meeting 20 years ago and still speak most days!

Kyan's room is such a happy place to be. When I walk past and look in, it cheers me up. He has many little treasures from Byron Bay in his room and he loves each and every one!

I'm sure over the Easter break I will capture some more images of special places to share with you all.

Paradise

Sometimes I get bogged down in every day life and forget what a beautiful part of world we live in. Beach, lake, parks and bushland are all on our doorstep and create such a tranquil environment just begging to be enjoyed.

We recently escaped a little further up the beach with some friends and had an amazing time at Double Island Point.

Our first time driving on the beach!!! The boys thought it was great and kept asking Daddy to drive in the water!

This was our pre-Easter getaway.....we have decided to stay home over the break and enjoy some more local sights and activities aswell as visiting friends and family. Should be nice and relaxing!

Well, I'm most excited at the moment. After a long search, far and wide, I have finally managed to find a wipes case that is handmade in Australia

and that will withstand the daily torture of nappy bag life!

Charli&Jax is run by 2 WAHMs, Kate & Krissy. The girls share a passion for all things craft and wanted to put their love of creating into something useful. Besides the delicious wipes cases, they also make bibs, burp cloths and even personalised canvases. Based in Mackay, these two talented mum's are working on setting up a website to display their magnificent creations.

The little things....

Not so long ago my husband and I were discussing Kyan's apparent lack of interest in drawing and painting. Wondering if & when he would start to enjoy drawing rather than saying "I can't draw that!" everytime he would sit down to draw. Despite attempting to teach him how to draw faces, he never really wanted to learn.

So imagine my surprise when he called me to the blackboard to show me his picture.....A FACE!! This is very exciting because it's the first face he has drawn, ever!

I took a photo of his picture because Rohan is away all week and I knew he would want to see it.

So here is the photo of Kyan and his face picture....a small moment of 'artiness' for my little number loving boy.

Since then he has done a drawing of our vege garden and a dragon. Just goes to show that they do things when they are ready and not a moment sooner.

Well, my energy is on the up and up...so much so that I've been sewing all day today!

Very exciting to be creating again. Notepads full of mental pictures but absolutely NO energy to even consider actually creating, until today.

Funny how a perfectly tidy sewing room can become a bombsite in a matter of hours. Oh well, it was worth it to finally whip up some tees and dig into my stash of about 200 blank tees just waiting to be turned into a funky fashion item.

This is my favourite creation today.........'drive with me' tee.

Happy Birthday Kyan

On 21st February Kyan turned 4!!! Yes, 4 years old....where did those years go?

We didn't have a party for him this year. Instead we went away for the weekend to the Gold Coast and visited Movie World!

Of course, the mother guilt of not throwing a party kicked in a few days before so I decided to create a special cake for Kindy.

I decided not to discuss this with Kyan, just in case the project was a failure. After much brainstorming between myself and Rohan, we decided that Kyan would most LOVE a dragon cake!!!!

So I dropped Kyan at Kindy on Thursday morning and raced into the supermarket to grab supplies. I had about 4.5 hours until Kindy pick up time.....the race was on!!
This is the finished product....before it was destroyed by 22 kindergarten children!

I had a dozen kindy mums asking me to make them a cake and suggesting that I go into business. While it was a rewarding experience seeing it all come together, it's not something I would like to do on a daily basis.

Thankfully, I have 6 months until Jayden's birthday!

Iron Woman!!!

Wow.....I have recently been feeling VERY VERY tired and was starting to think that there was something seriously wrong with me.

I would wake in the morning, make the boys breakfast and crawl back into bed until morning tea time. This was my existence. On the sad occasion that I had to leave the house, I would be struggling to stand!

After a host of blood tests, ultrasounds and xrays I have found out that I am ANAEMIC!! Not just iron deficient....anaemic. You can't imagine my relief at finally knowing why all I wanted to do is sleep.

Now I am on the rebuilding red blood cells mission. My herbalist has given me a great tonic and some fantastic recipes. I am not a vego but I don't really eat much meat. Problem is that I wasn't substituting for other iron rich foods....well, we hope that's the problem. If I have another blood test in a month and the levels aren't up, then we stress some more!

Anyway, this is why the store has no stock. I have no energy to even think about sewing let alone actually performing the task. I have barely even been on the computer.

So hang in there oh loyal customers. Boodabubs isn't going anywhere, we just need to recover from this ailment.

Happy New Year

A little late but here we are kicking off an exciting new year!! Hoping everybody had a safe and happy holiday season.

We had a great time visiting friends and family with a day trip to Wet'n'Wild and a last minute camping trip up to Borumba Dam for New Years with a bunch of friends and kiddies.

The festivities continued right up until Monday just gone when we had a spur of the moment bbq with my 3 closest friends and their families......8 adults and 10 kids in a massive sleepover at our place. Lots of swimming in the pool, great food and tired little munchkins!

Now it's time to kick off the year. Rohan is back to work on Monday. Only 2 weeks until my little Kyan starts kindy!! Which means, only 1 year until he's at school.....where did the time go??

Boodabubs shall be a little quiet for the first few months of the year as we have a lot going on behind the scenes in our personal lives. I will, however, continue to keep the store stocked with all your faves and some new bits and pieces.

We have kicked off the year with a summer sale. Time to start clearing out the summer stock to make way for the Autumn delights. Don't forget that VIPs get 10% off the sale price.

The Countdown has Begun

The tree is up and the house is decorated.....this time in 3 weeks....Santa comes!!!

I have been trying to find a new Christmas craft idea for the kids each day. Today it was painting pine cones collected from my Mum's house.

Of course, no painted pine cone is complete without being drowned in glitter!!

I am rapidly running out of ideas that will interest both kids (aged 2 & 3yrs) so if anybody has any ideas....please feel free to share!

Like most of you, I cannot believe it's only 5 and a bit weeks until Christmas. Despite the fact that it seems to have crept up on me.....I absolutely love everything about this festive season.

This is the first year (in the last 6 years) that my parents, 7 brothers & sisters and 6 nieces & nephews will not be turning our house upside down on Christmas day/night. This year we are celebrating at my sister's home and I must say I am already enjoying a relaxing lead up to Christmas. Usually at this time I am cleaning my house from top to bottom, shopping every 2 days to ensure we have enough food to feed our 'army', gardening, painting etc, etc, etc. Basically, every little thing that hasn't been done since last Christmas has to be done in the last few weeks leading up.....but not this year!!!

I have spent this week creating with my little chickens. Cardboard christmas trees and stars to decorate, christmas tree cookies with icing and sprinkles, not to mention watching 'The Santa Clause' at least 6 times already!

These days of being able to be at home, with small children in the lead up to Christmas, are very limited and this year I am really going to make the most of it.

Off to bed now in preparation for being woken at 5am by two very energetic little men!

The weekend just gone was glorious. Not too hot to be outdoors. Perfect for parties, barbecues and swimming.....and we did all three!

We celebrated my best friends birthday at Bribie Island. The kids all had a great time playing and swimming. What a magical time of year!

Just a quick note to apologise for the lack of blog posts over the last 2 months. Last you all heard, our Summer range was coming and then....nothing. Well, we are trying to organise a move which will mean I will have my husband at home all week rather than just on weekends. This will also mean I can start sewing again.

In the meantime, I have managed to list a few new things. I have had many emails chasing the Tiny Tops which I blogged about back in winter. I did list a few but they were snapped up very quickly. I have listed some more and have more ready, just waiting to be photographed so they won't be far away. Also, some cute Peasant Tops from Miss Polly, as seen below.....

So Long Winter

Well, the weather here on the Sunny Coast turned a little chilly today for the last day of winter. Just to remind us what we'll be missing out on!!!

I had hoped to have the spring/summer funky gear in store by now but am running a little behind....with good reason. My husband has just started working away so I have spent the last week adjusting to the new 'solo mum' routine. He comes home on weekends, which means the last thing I want to do is sew! As a result, not much has happened over the past few weeks.

I am anticipating that I will add the stock over the next week or two so keep eyes peeled.

Anyway, off to bed and hoping the sun will be shining bright for the first day of Spring tomorrow.

A bit of excitement in our little patch of suburbia today.

Our home and a few others in our street back onto a large patch of bushland and this afternoon we had the fire fighters doing a controlled backburn. The boys were so excited when we got home to a firetruck parked at the front of our house.

The photos are a bit hazy due to the smoke.....

We especially love how the firefighters know how much it means to the kids to see the lights and hear the sirens. They put on a great show for Kyan and Jayden......all the while keeping our homes safe! Good job guys. Thanks.

Well, we have finally finished our photo shoot for the Spring/Summer range and the photos are just being finalised. A couple of my favourites below.......2 outfits that capture the feel of being a kid on the Sunshine Coast!

Lilly in the red Hula Girl Set. Summer in the Denim Shorts & Tiny Top Set. The Tiny Tops were a customer favourite last summer so I'm sure many will be glad to see them back!

Both of these sets will be available in store towards the end of August....along with lots more new stuff for girls and boys!

What a Splendour-iffic Weekend

Well, it's over for another year.

Earlier this week I returned from my annual pilgrimage to the amazing Byron Bay for Splendour in the Grass. A 2 day festival packed with music from around the globe and great food and market stalls.
As usual I shopped like a maniac in town......spending a small fortune at Essentially Byron.....the best bubs & kids shop in the WORLD!! Got some amazing little jumpers, for the boys, from the 'Orbit Kids' label. I think my boys own every single item ever released by Orbit Kids!!

We enjoyed fantastic breakfast every day, sitting on the comfy couches at 'The Balcony'. What a shame it has to end.

Oh well, now it's back to reality. Unfortunately for me, reality at the moment is sick kids! YAY!

Can't wait for next year!!

Spring Summer Inspiration

A few months ago, I completed my designs for the Boodabubs spring/summer range. This is the first time I have actually designed a complete range of designs that will be available through the entire season. My inspiration for the range came from photos of my sister & I when we were young. We were always dressed in the cutest little 70's clothes that, to me, captured the essence of being a child. Although my fabrics are a little more modern, the design concept is the same......cute kids clothes made for fun in the sun!

To look at the range reminds me of a summer fruit bowl.....strawberries, kiwi fruit, mango.....so cute, I want to eat them!

So, after a long few months of design, patterning, cutting & sewing we are almost ready to photograph and I can hardly wait!!

Today I have enjoyed a lovely relaxing birthday. I have been very spoilt....diamond earrings, flowers, perfume & a handbag!!!! Now I am looking forward to a romantic restaurant dinner with my husband tonight......

I am finishing of the last few garments of my Spring/Summer range this week for our photo shoot next week. I can't wait!

In the meantime, I am also trying to keep adding new stock to the store. Finished this off today, in between the chaos of life with 2 toddlers.

Spoke too soon!

Okay, it appears that I spoke too soon regarding our delightful weather. Today is freeeeezing. It's nice in the sun but the wind is icy! So cold that Jayden is still in bed at 10am....dead to the world!!

Unfortunately though, the yardwork still needs doing. Kyan has been helping dad in the yard......playing with worms dug out of the garden. Now they are onto the pool cleaning. One of those jobs that needs doing year round, even though it only gets used for about 6 months of the year.

Anyway, while they are cleaning I can get some sewing done. Will blog again later regarding sewing. xx

Winter?????

I know I've already blogged today but I couldn't resist raving about the amazing weather on the Sunny Sunshine Coast today.

We have just spent all morning lazing on the beach and it was actually HOT in the sun! We always have lovely days in winter but not quite this warm......though the water is about minus 10.....maybe a slight exaggeration!.

Anyway, not complaining. Just sharing some pics of my little men enjoying the day.

....and, yes, they are wearing matching wetsuits!! They only had one colour when I got them....I know they'll hate me for it when they're older. hehehe

I LOVE COFFEE

Every morning I wake up thinking I can make it through the day without my caffiene fix.....and everyday I fail miserably.

I think back to when I used to make a fresh juice every morning and the only time I would have coffee was when I needed to stay awake and bounce off the walls for the next 12 hours. Now it has no such affect on me, it merely keeps me awake!
Anyway, the reason I am bringing this up is because on 30 June, my sister and I completed the sale of our cafe in Maroochydore.

Firstly, this means no more FREE coffee which is a catastrophe. It also means that I don't have that 'I can always go back to' option in the background. We've sold shops before but this was our LAST ONE. No more juice bars or cafes.

Perhaps it's time to give up coffee.......after I pop down to my local cafe and grab a flat white!

Aussie Aussie Aussie World!

I am almost ashamed to admit that although I live on the Sunshine Coast, I have not been to Aussie World.....until now.

Me, my boys and the Mothers Group clan headed off this week to enjoy all that Aussie World has to offer the under 5 year olds and we were not dissapointed.

We all had free run of 4 'tiny tots' rides and the big ferris wheel for 2 hours and us mums got a free cuppa!

For those who don't know Aussie World....it's a small theme park located next to the 'cartoon famous' Ettamogah pub! The crooked building with a tree growing up the middle that was based on a cartoon and they built it in real life, here on the Sunny Coast.

Definately worth checking out if you're visiting the Coast or if you are a local that just hasn't been before. It's great for kids!
